The important difference between two editions is often hidden in the last step of a workflow. A free form builder may collect an enquiry perfectly well, while the connection to your mailing service belongs to another plan. Discovering that after building every form makes the decision harder than it needed to be.
Write a short route through the feature. For a downloadable guide, the route might include entering an address, confirming a subscription, receiving a message and accessing the file. Mark which product performs each step. A plugin price does not necessarily cover the email service, file storage or automation platform connected to it.
Read the feature comparison using those steps as your headings. Terms such as “integrations” or “advanced forms” are too broad to settle the question. Find the exact connection, export format or conditional rule in the documentation. If the description is ambiguous, ask the vendor about that specific requirement before committing.
Compare the first payment with the renewal arrangement. Note the number of sites, whether a staging installation counts and who will own the license. A developer's license may not automatically transfer to a client. Avoid assuming that an expired license immediately stops a plugin, or that it leaves every feature available forever; the vendor's actual terms control that behavior.

- Connected service: Mail delivery, file storage or automation may have a separate subscription.
- Renewal and ownership: Check renewal price, site allowance, account owner and expiry behavior.
Compare the working arrangement, not just the first payment.
Support is another boundary. Check whether assistance covers configuration questions, third-party conflicts or custom code. A faster response channel may be useful, but it is not a promise that someone will redesign your workflow. Save the relevant terms with the purchase record so they remain available when the sales page changes.
Try the exit before the purchase as far as the product permits. Export a small set of invented records and inspect whether the fields you need remain understandable. A cheap subscription can become expensive if moving away requires reconstructing months of work.
You may find that the free edition is entirely sufficient. That is a valid result, not a reason to add more features. Choose the smallest arrangement that completes the required task and leaves a manageable maintenance and renewal commitment.
